New Release Round-Up (February 25, 2021)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases.


Bravely Default II

Bravely Default II is the third entry in the series, which focuses on its strategic turn-based combat and job system. The game is set in a new world to its predecessors with new characters and a new story. Revo, who composed the soundtrack to Bravely Default, returned to compose the soundtrack to Bravely Default II. A demo is currently available to download from the Nintendo eShop.


Curse of the Dead Gods

In Curse of the Dead Gods, players are tasked with advancing through a cursed temple in search of riches, immortality, and divine powers. Death is not the end, as players rise again and attempt to dive deeper, earning Relics that help them deal with the multitude of traps and foes in the temple’s labyrinth. The game also includes a corruption mechanic, which rises as players undertake certain actions, eventually resulting in curses being applied.


Demon’s Rise: Lords of Chaos

Demon’s Rise: Lords of Chaos is a hex-based tactical RPG. The game sees players building their forces from 25 classes as they fight in a war in the fantasy world of Tarren. Combat utilises terrain and line-of-sight elements.


Geneforge 1 – Mutagen

Platform: PC, Mac

Geneforge 1 – Mutagen is a remake of the first title in the Geneforge series, which launched in 1999, and underwent a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2020. The game is set in a fantasy world inhabited by wizards called Shapers. The Shapers are able to create life, which is expected to obey without question or face destruction. However, some of their creations have begun looking for freedom.


Hellpoint

Platform: Nintendo Switch (previously released on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)

Hellpoint is a sci-fi action RPG set on a derelict space station orbiting a black hole and lists Dark Souls, Dead Space, Event Horizon, and Hellraiser as its inspirations. HellSign

After nearly two-and-a-half years in Early Access, investigative action RPG HellSign has been fully launched. The game takes on an open-ended mission-based structure, with players controlling a Hunter in Australia that defends the barrier between the real world and the supernatural. Players accept contracts, select a loadout at their safehouse, collect and decipher clues for the contract, arm themselves with relevant traps or other items, and finally take on the targeted supernatural entity.


Littlewood

Platform: Nintendo Switch (previously released PC, Mac, Linux)

Price: $14.99

Littlewood is a game that takes place after the world of Solemn has been saved. Players control the hero who, having defeated the Dark Wizard, triumphantly comes back to their hometown, which is in need of repairs. The hero must now rebuild the town, and learn new hobbies in a world where peace has returned.


Persona 5 Strikers

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Price: $59.99

Persona 5 Strikers is an action RPG developed alongside Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio and acts as a sequel to Persona 5. Combat features pause-and-plan elements as well as Persona 5′s ambushes, elemental weaknesses, and All-Out Attacks. Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos

Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch

Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos features a top-down perspective, up to four-player co-op where each player can assist and revive one another in order to continue adventuring, procedurally generated dungeons, and a town and class upgrade system. The game takes place in the titular world of Tasos, with players based around the village of Intori. The game underwent a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2018.
