Kickstarter Check-In: Gamedec, Holmgang: Memories of the Forgotten

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Anshar Studios’ Gamedec and Zerouno Games’ Holmgang: Memories of the Forgotten.

Gamedec

Anshar Studios’ Gamedec is a cyberpunk isometric RPG and the developer has turned to Kickstarter to secure additional funding for its development. The game is based on the Gamedec book series by author Marcin Przybyłek and takes place in the 22nd century, with players acting as a private detective tasked with solving crimes that occur in an assortment of virtual worlds.

Gamedec is heavily focused on player choice as they go about their investigations. Players create a character beginning with a small number of Aspects, with more added as they experience events and make decisions. These Aspects then go towards unlocking Professions, which make more options available when investigating. After finding clues, players can then come to their own conclusions and act on them as they see fit. The virtual titles players will investigate includes Harvest Time, a Wild West free-to-play farming sim.

Gamedec is being developed for PC and is currently planned for released in Q4 2020. The game has already passed its $50,000 funding goal, with the campaign set to run until April 28, 2020. Those who pledge at least $25 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.

Holmgang: Memories of the Forgotten

Zerouno Games’ Holmgang: Memories of the Forgotten is a 3D hack-and-slash RPG currently undergoing its Kickstarter campaign. The game takes place in the world of Dracorum, with players controlling Kandar, Valentia, and Tatsu in their quest to defeat Emperor Hazulem before he conquers the world.

Holmgang features a combo-based combat system, with longer combos being harder to execute but providing greater rewards. Players are able to edit their own combos and the game includes quick and strong attack forms as well as a parry system. During the game, players will come across various characters who will offer quests or goods, but some of them may attempt to deceive. Players will also come across areas with environmental puzzles, including some secret areas that only certain characters can access.

Zerouno Games is looking for $45,000 in funding, with the campaign set to run until April 22, 2020. Those who pledge at least $20 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their game rewards. Holmgang: Memories of the Forgotten is being developed for PC and is expected to launch in 2021. Other platforms are also being considered.
