The game is set before the trilogy of Witcher games and puts players in the role of Meve, queen of the Northern nations of Lyria and Rivia, as she deals with an invasion from the Nilfgaardian Empire. Thronebreaker features various management aspects as well as choices and consequences, with its combat system based on the Gwent card game.
