Final Fantasy VII Remake Gets First Trailer

Capping off Sony’s State of Play event today, Square Enix released the first official teaser trailer for the long-awaited PlayStation 4 exclusive Final Fantasy VII Remake. At just over a minute, the trailer manages to squeeze in a bit of cinematics, some gameplay footage, and even a few scenes of the redesigned combat system replacing the original’s turn-based one. Several fully-voiced characters make quick appearances as Avalanche assaults Shinra’s Mako Reactor; there may even be a cameo of a certain fan-favorite villain.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is perhaps the most anticipated makeover the franchise has gotten yet. First teased during 2005’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (and demanded by the fans even before that), the game has received very little news in the intervening years. The new trailer shows nothing so concrete as a release date, rather stating that “the return draws closer”, but promises more to come in June.

Like all other news posts, it was posted on its own when it first happened. The round-up just brings it back to your attention.
