Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! Gets New Info, Japanese Release Date

Square Enix released new screenshots, details, and a trailer for its upcoming game Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! This title is a remaster of the Nintendo Wii game Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon.

The game’s story focuses on two treasure hunters, Chocobo and Cid, who come across a strange town named Lostime. Whenever the clock tower’s bell rings in Lostime, the townspeople suddenly forget their sadness, impulsive behaviors, and even their names. This is until a peculiar boy named Raffaello arrives on the scene with the ability to create dungeons out of people’s memories.

Cid is a globe-trotting treasure hunter and a crack inventor who travels alongside his partner, Chocobo. Shirma is a kindhearted white mage that lives with her Aunt Stella on a ranch on the outskirts of Lostime. Raffaello is a unique boy who ages quickly and has the power to create dungeons out of people’s memories, leading some townsfolk to regard him as a savior.  Dungeon Hero X is a masked Moogle who occasionally appears to lend a hand to Chocobo.

Dungeons operate on a turn-based system, with enemies and characters moving in accordance to how Chocobo moves. New dungeons have also been added to the game, and some of these new dungeons are more difficult. Chocobo can unlock various job types throughout the game, allowing for multiple fighting styles. Jobs include Knight, Black Mage, and Alpha — the last one is a new job based on the eponymous character from Final Fantasy XIV. The new buddy system is accessed through Buddy Points that are earned by defeating monsters. After accumulating enough points for a certain monster, you can add that monster to your party as a buddy character. Characters within the game also have the chance to become a buddy.

Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! is set to release in Japan on March 20, 2019, for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. A western release is planned, but there is no set date.
