Microsoft Acquires inXile, Obsidian; Other X018 Announcements

Microsoft held its X018 event in Mexico City, hosting a two-hour live episode of Inside Xbox where it made several announcements. The biggest RPG-focused reveal was the company is in the process of acquiring development studios inXile Entertainment (The Bard’s Tale IV, Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera) and Obsidian Entertainment (Pillars of Eternity, Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol). Microsoft stated that the two studios will be working on both new and existing franchises.

In other news, Microsoft and White Owls Inc. announced that simulation RPG The Good Life will be comng to Xbox One. The Xbox One version will join the previously-announced PC and PlayStation 4 versions, with Kickstarter backers who backed a level that included a digital copy of the PlayStation 4 version to be given the opportunity to change it to an Xbox One version at a later date.

Meanwhile, the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy will soon be available for Xbox One via the consoles expanding backward compatibility program. Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII — currently available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC — will all be available from November 13, 2018. Finally, Kingdom Hearts III received a new trailer ahead of its January 29, 2019, release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, introducing its new Hundred Acre Wood world featuring the characters from Winnie the Pooh.
