Kickstarter Check-In: Destiny Chronicles, Nighthawks
RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Visualnoveler’s Destiny Chronicles and Wadjet Eye Games’ Nighthawks.
Destiny Chronicles
Developer Visualnoveler has returned to Kickstarter for a second go at crowdfunding its action RPG Destiny Chronicles. Following an original attempt last year, the studio has spent time working on the title in preparation for its new attempt. This includes creating a new demo, which can be downloaded from its campaign page.
Destiny Chronicles is set in a fantasy world and follows Celeste, a young woman looking to join the Ashen Order, which acts as protectors for the people of Darencia against monsters. Celeste is sent to prove herself by retrieving a corrupting artifact from the forest village of Ornwood, only to find that another young woman has stolen it. Celeste teams up with various allies in her quest to get the artifact back, uncovering a deeper story in the process.
Combat in Destiny Chronicles takes place on the same field as exploration and allows for physical and magical attacks, along with dodges and counters. Two AI-controlled party members will join up with Celeste, with customisable behaviour.
Visualnoveler is looking for S$68,010 (around US$44,000) in funding for Destiny Chronicles by October 5, 2018. Those who pledge at least S$27 (around US$20) will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Destiny Chronicles is being developed for Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, with an initial planned release date of late 2019.
Nighthawks
Nighthawks is a vampire RPG from Unavowed developer Wadjet Eye Games. The developer has teamed up with writer Richard Cobbett, who has previously worked on Sunless Sea and The Long Journey Home, for the game, which sees players controlling a vampire who has arrived in a city looking for a fresh start.
Nighthawks begins three months after the player character’s death and subsequent rebirth as a vampire. The game is a mix of story-driven RPG and undead life-simulation, with plenty of branching choices. Players will need to balance learning skills, investigating mysteries, and managing their thirst. Players will be able to build relationships with various characters, who may help out the player if they are helped in turn.
Wadjet Eye Games is looking for US$125,000 in funding for Nighthawks by October 5, 2018. Those who pledge at least US$20 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Nighthawks is being developed for PC and Mac, with an initial planned release date of mid-2020.
