THQ Nordic Reimagines Gothic in Playable Teaser

THQ Nordic is offering gamers an opportunity to make their voices heard by chiming in about an upcoming project. The publisher is prepared to put THQ Nordic Barcelona, its newest development studio, on the task of creating a full-fledged remake of the original Gothic action RPG — if there’s sufficient player interest, that is.

All those who own any title of Gothic‘s original developer Piranha Bytes on Steam — any entry in the Gothic or Risen franchise, or ELEX — currently have access to a playable two-hour prototype of a Gothic remake in their Steam library. After exploring the in-game mining town of Khorinis, players will fill out a survey to share their thoughts on the possibility of a full remake.

Gothic initially released on PC in North America in 2001, and in Europe the following year. It spawned three sequels, but the franchise has now lain dormant for almost a decade. To give interested players an idea of the upgrade, a trailer for the remake and a side-by-side comparison video of the prototype and original release have been released, with both viewable below.
