inXile Entertainment Demos The Bard’s Tale IV

Developer inXile Entertainment released a new demo walkthrough video for The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep. The video features twenty-three minutes of gameplay with developer commentary and shows exploration and the game’s first-person turn-based combat.

The Bard’s Tale IV is the first mainline game in the series since The Bard’s Tale III released in 1988, though a spoof/unconnected spin-off simply titled The Bard’s Tale was released in 2004 and VR title The Mage’s Tale was released in 2017. The Bard’s Tale IV was crowdfunded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 and is planned for release on PC, Mac, and Linux in 2018.

Looks interesting. I was hoping for a more faithful recreation of the original games. However, I can dig this if I do not try to constantly compare it to those. The combat reminds me of games like Dynasty Tactics, where you can position yourself, and enemies (using the right skills) to set up chain reactions. That was fun.

Would love for this to come to console. Too bad I missed out on the Kickstarter. I like doing these.
