System Shock Remake Coming to Nintendo Switch Consoles
Developer Nightdive Studios has announced that the remake of sci-fi classic System Shock will be released for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The upcoming versions will feature gyro aiming and various community-requested features, with Joy-Con 2 mouse support and 1080p, 60fps graphics on Nintendo Switch 2. They will also include the improvements of the 2024 PlayStation and Xbox console versions. A release date as yet to be announced.
System Shock initially launched for PC in 1994. It takes place in a space station, Citadel Station, where players take on the role of a cyberspace hacker who awakens from a coma to realize the station is controlled by rogue A.I. Shodan, who is hellbent on destroying the human race. Players must explore the station swarming with hostile cyborgs and mutants to stop Shodan.
The remake, which has HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and new sounds and music, is currently available for PC (via Steam, GOG.com, and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Its console version features several improvements over the PC release, including a new female protagonist, a reworked ending, and redesigned controls.
