Nippon Ichi Software Announces Kyouran Makaism

Nippon Ichi Software announced action RPG Kyouran Makaism. The game is being developed by a number of staff behind the Disgaea series including director Shunsuke Minowa, character designer Takehito Harada, and composer Tenpei Sato. It includes recurring elements from the Disgaea series, such as high level caps, large damage totals, Netherworlds, and Prinnies. The game is planned to release in Japan on January 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Kyouran Makaism follows veteran mercenary Neuer, who is summoned by the Superlative Netherworld overlord Tisiel. She tasks Neuer with finding the thief who stole the First Radiance Pudding, which was created by Tisiel’s deceased father. Neuer is skilled in all weapons and magic but has a dry personality and no goals or aspirations in life, simply fighting to survive, while Tisiel is sheltered and new to her governing role, taking our the position of Superlative Netherworld overlord after her father’s death.

The game sees Neuer use seven different weapon types — fists, swords, spears, axes, bows, guns, and staffs — each with their own attack ranges and actions against groups of enemies. Each weapon also has four different special techniques to utilise against foes. The game features a level cap of 9,999, but also includes elements like Reincarnation that returns a character to level 1 while maintaining various bonuses and attribute gains. Other elements include various equipable bonuses and “Chara Worlds” that let players strengthen characters by diving into them. Players can also capture monsters during battle, which can be taken into combat as Familiars and even transformed into weapons.
