Monster Hunter Outlanders Details Revealed

Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group revealed new details for Monster Hunter mobile spin-off Monster Hunter Outlanders ahead of the game’s appearance with a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show. In addition, RPGamer also able to attend an earlier press briefing to learn a bit more about the game.

Monster Hunter Outlanders sees up to four players join forces to hunt monsters on the mysterious island of Aesoland, with the game retaining the usual Monster Hunter loop of accepting quests and using rewards to update and create new equipment. The player is an Adventurer, one who travels the world and uses adventuring and engineering skills to hunt, as well as taking on particular roles when working together. Players create their own customised Fated Adventurer, but also can play as other story Adventurers they encounter in the game. Players can choose to play as either the Fated Adventurer or a story Adventurer in most parts of the game, though some content will only be available for the Fated Adventurer.

The Fated Adventurer is able to use all of the game’s weapon types, with the Tokyo Game Show demo including the Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Bow, and Heavy Bowgun. Meanwhile, story Adventurers specialise in specific weapons and role; for example, Midori is an assault-based Long Sword-wielder. Adventurers are split into three roles: Assault, which focuses on dealing damage; Disruptor, which focuses on crowd control and weakening foes; and Support, which focuses on aiding allies. Each role gets their own buddy. Assault Adventurers are joined by the familiar Palico, Disruptor Adventurers are partnered with the monkey-like Rutaco, and Support Adventurers are assisted by the owl-like Trillan.

Monster Hunter Outlanders introduces new Radiant Species, caused by a special substance on Aesoland that changes the appearance and abilities of some monsters, as well as making them more aggressive and seeing them potentially enter a frenzied state during hunts. In addition, the game includes a new co-op skill mechanic. During a hunt, this mechanic becomes available for the entire party at the same time and encourages the party to focus their attacks on the same monster part. Should the party get the timing right, they can gain various buffs.

The game features a control system tailored to mobile platforms, with follow-up attacks able to be triggered with a single tap. It will include prompts to help highlight monster attacks, as well as a camera lock-on that lets players focus on a specific monster part. The game will include the series’ using Gathering Hub area, as well as an Adventurers’ Guild feature. Aesoland itself is divided into regions with different terrain and climates; the Tokyo Game Show demo features the Grand Archipelago region, which has a colourful ecosystem thanks to its fungi and marine algae. While exploring the regions, players can build facilities to help them move around more easily, and there will be various world events and mini-games to uncover.

TiMi Studio Group promised that it will be listening to feedback from the demo as it develops Monster Hunter Outlanders. A closed beta test is planned to take place in mid-November 2025 on both iOS and Android, with registration available now through the game’s official website.
