Publisher WhisperGames and developer Black Voyage Games released roguelike tactical RPG Lost in the Open on Steam Early Access. The Early Access version is priced at $15.99, with 10% discount until October 10, 2025. The game is expected to spend nine to twelve months in Early Access prior to its full release on PC. A demo of the game is currently available on Steam.

Lost in the Open is a roguelike tactical RPG set in a low-fantasy world. It puts players in the role of Nrvesk, the tyrannical ruler of Ruedome, who is wounded in an assassination attempt during a meeting with neighboring country Stratha. Players must navigate the harsh environment, surviving by recruiting loyal bodyguards along the way while attempting to escape the pursuing Strathan soldiers.

Battles require a strategic approach, as enemies will attempt to pull units out of position to lure them into traps and flank the king. Node-based exploration offers narrative choices such as taking bribes or engaging in combat, as well as helping strangers with the possibility of reward or betrayal. The game features a randomized world, progression, and encounters, providing a different experience with each playthrough. Gold obtained from battles and exploration can be used to upgrade the party’s weapons and armor, while new skills and perks can be unlocked by gaining experience from battles.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
