Dark Fantasy Monster Taming RPG Yami Kids Undergoes Kickstarter Campaign

Developer Yanako RPG has begun a Kickstarter campaign for its dark fantasy monster taming RPG Yami Kids. The campaign is looking for $7,000 and is set to run until October 2, 2025. Those who pledge at least $15 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. The game is currently expected to release for PC in 2026, with console versions included as stretch goals for the campaign.

Yami Kids follows twins Yuki and Yumi Yami in a world where people battle using monsters called Oni. Oni are bound to people known as Contractors, who look after and train up their Oni to use in battles, and are hired by companies to undertake various tasks. Players control one of the twins, who is orphaned at a young age before being trained as a battler, while the other twin follows them around as a ghost.

Shin Megami Tensei: Demi Kids and Yu-Gi-Oh! are cited as major inspirations for the game. The game’s world features Simulated Battles that take place during the day and Shadow Duels that take place at night involving real monsters. If players lose a Shadow Duel, they are sent to the Underworld, where they can find unique items, visit mysterious places, and perform other activities before they make a deal with the being of the Underworld to return to the world of the living. The game feature both one-on-one and two-versus-two battles, as well as dungeons and puzzles. Oni have different types and elements that determine their abilities.
