Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Releasing in September
Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a new remaster of the original Final Fantasy Tactics. The game is developed by Square Enix’s Business Studio III and will release worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, 2025, with pre-orders beginning later today. The game includes staff members who worked on the original release including Kazutoyo Maehiro (Director), Hiroshi Minagawa (Art Director), and Yasumi Matsuno (Original Script, Scenario Writer and Editor).
Final Fantasy Tactics originally released for PlayStation in Japan in 1997 and in North America in 1998 before getting an enhanced PlayStation Portable version titled Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. It is the first game set in the recurring setting of Ivalice and follows young noble Ramza Beoulve, who becomes involved in a succession crisis known as the War of the Lions.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will include two versions of the game: the enhanced version and the classic version. The enhanced version will include fully voiced dialogue, an updated UI, graphical improvements, and a number of other quality-of-life features, including a new, more accessible “Squire” difficulty setting. Meanwhile, the classic version will feature graphics and gameplay truer to the original 1997 version and include the War of the Lions translation, plus a few extra features such as an auto save.
