New Release Round-Up (May 22, 2025)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column, we look to provide our readers with details on the major RPGs released in the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development. Pricing is shown in US dollars before application of any discounts, local pricing may vary.


Blades of Fire

Action RPG Blades of Fire is set in a fantasy world and puts players in the role of Aran de Lira, firstborn of the King’s Ward. However, the newly crowned Queen Nerea casts a spell turning steel into stone, leaving those who face her army of abominations with shattered blades. Aran is able to craft new weapons by finding Forge Scrolls, with seven different weapon families available. The game’s combat system lets players target specific body parts, with armour affecting which weapons are more effective. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

Life sim RPG Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time sees players drifting onto an island that was previously home to a prosperous civilisation. Players develop the island through quests and crafting, before being able to time travel back into the past, where they can learn secrets about the island and potentially rewrite history. The game includes fourteen different roles, or Lives, for players to freely change between as they build up their town.


Game of Thrones: Kingsroad

Action RPG Game of Thrones: Kingsroad puts players in the world of Westeros, where they control an illegitimate child from the small northern House Tyre. After the deaths of their siblings, they set out to restore their house’s former glory while the threat of the White Walkers looms over the land. The game sees players venturing to locations throughout Westeros, taking on various foes and beasts. Players can choose one of three classes — Knight, Sellsword, and Assassin — with combat making use of fully manual controls, dodging, and parrying.


Hylide II

Platform: Nintendo Switch

The latest title in the D4 Enterprise’s EGGCONSOLE retro re-release series, Hylide II is an action RPG created by T&E Soft and initially released for the NEC PC-8801 home computer system in Japan in 1985 before also being ported to MSX home computer systems in Japan. The game features a bump-based combat system as players are transported to the world of Fairy Land, which they must save from monsters and other evil. Like other EGGCONSOLE releases, the Nintendo Switch version has the main game and gallery screen in Japanese while the menu and “how to play” screens are in English.


Knock on the Coffin Lid

“Fantasy-mystery whodunnit” roguelite deckbuilder Knock on the Coffin Lid sees players rising from a cold crypt far away from home and without memories. They must navigate their way through three regions in order to return home and uncover the mystery of their own death, with their choices changing the fate of the world. Players build up their deck to summon allies, cast spells, and fortify their defenses during the card-based turn-based battles.


Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny Remastered

A remaster of the Japan-only PlayStation Vita title, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny Remastered sees players taking on various story missions from the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny animated series, as well as other side stories including Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73: STARGAZER, and more. Players can choose from various pilots and over 100 different Mobile Suits to pilot and customise. In addition to its first English localisation, the remastered version includes a redesigned UI, new game mechanics, and various quality-of-life features.


Monster Train 2

Roguelike strategic card game Monster Train 2 is a follow-up to 2020’s Monster Train. The game sees players command an alliance of former angels and demons as they attempt to defeat the Titans, who have gained control of Heaven. The game features five clans to command as they travel through Hell, Heaven, and the Abyss on trains.


Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Open-world RPG Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is based on the board game Tainted Grail and is set in a world reimagining the Arthurian legend. King Arthur and his knights are beginning to pass into legend as the people face an encroaching plague known as the Red Death and a magical phenomenon known as the Wyrdness. Players explore a realm slowly falling apart as they come across various factions, each with their own idea on how to proceed in the changing world. The game is said to include three large zones to explore with over 200 side quests and over 70 dungeons, with its branching main quest leading to multiple possible endings.


Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate

Action roguelite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate features four-player co-op as the turtles set out to rescue Splinter from the clutches of the Foot Clan, travelling to various locales through mysterious portals.
