Frosthaven Adaptation Announced
Arc Games, Asmodee, and Cephalofair Games have announced a video game adaptation of board game Frosthaven. The game is billed as a dark fantasy tactical RPG evolution of the board game with both single player and co-op multiplayer support. It is being developed by Snapshot Games, which is led by X-COM creator Julian Gollop, with the original board game’s creator Isaac Childres acting as a consultant.
Frosthaven is a spiritual successor to Gloomhaven, which received its own adaptation. The game sees players using action and movement cards that work together with cards held by their teammates. It will include an in-depth tutorial as well as varying difficulty levels. There will besix starting character classes — Boneshaper, Banner Spear, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade, and Deathwalker — with more unlocked as players progress through the campaign. Players will also build up their outpost, building and upgrading buildings that unlock new features and mechanics.
Frosthaven is planned to release on Steam Early Access, though a release date has not been announced. It is expected to spend around a year in Early Access, with the initial release planned to contain around a third of the total number of quests. A closed beta playtest is set to begin on March 27, 2025, with those interested in participating able to sign up through the game’s official website.
