Scars of Mars Adds Challenge Mode

Acquire released a new update for its tactical RPG Scars of Mars. The update includes a new Challenge Mode as well as various feature improvements.

The Challenge Mode is an additional difficulty setting unlocked after clearing the game. In this mode, players face stronger enemies and don’t have access to Safe Rooms. Players can acquire enhanced versions of previous equipment by clearing levels and see their best clear time for each level recorded. The feature improvements include quality-of-life changes, UI adjustments, bug fixes, and more. The full update notes can be found here.

Scars of Mars is set on a research facility on Mars in the mid-22nd century. Players take on the role of a commander of a unit of humanoid fighters on a top-secret mission to rescue survivors after the facility loses contact. Players can control four fighters, positioned on a three-by-three grid, and make real-time decisions about who to control and when to dodge, attack, heal, and more. Each of the humanoid fighters can be customised with different classes, frames and, weapons. Each playthrough features procedurally-generated routes through the research facility, with players given limited battery power for each run. Scars of Mars is currently available for PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch.
