New Release Round-Up (July 18, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the last two weeks. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Ancient Phantasma

Ancient Phantasma is a retro-styled turn-based fantasy RPG. It is set in Sandoria, a realm found after a pair of heroes defeated the demon king. The game follows Dean, a young lord who initially sets out to defeat bandits before joining with knight Flei and messenger Krucia to confront a threat to the entire kingdom.


Darkest Dungeon II

A follow-up to 2016 turn-based roguelike Darkest DungeonDarkest Dungeon II sees players tasked with guiding a stagecoach expedition across a decaying landscape to try and avert the apocalypse. The game features a refined version of the previous game’s combat with a new Token System. Each failed run grants resources that can be used on upgrades for future attempts. The game also includes an affinity system between party members, and players can learn more about their heroes’ backstories. Dungeons of Hinterberg

Action RPG Dungeons of Hinterberg is set around the small Austrian village of Hinterberg, which is a popular tourist destination thanks to its scenery, crisp air, and magical dungeons. Adventurers from all around come to Hinterberg to face off against the dungeons’ Alpine monsters, find loot, and complete the Dungeon Challenge, while hanging out at the bar between runs. By building relationships with locals and fellow adventurers, players can obtain key items that will help them get through dungeons.


Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn

Action RPG Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is set in a world where the Door to the Afterlife has opened, allowing an old god’s undead army to escape. As humanity is pushed to the brink of extinction, a coalition army forms to take back the world using gunpowder and magic. The game sees protagonist Nor and her mystical companion Enki travelling across deserts, ruins, and the City of Dawn, to gather a team of explosive and weapon experts for the final siege.

Drawing inspiration from classic 16-bit and 32-bit sidescrolling titles, Gestalt: Steam & Cinder mixes 2D platforming with action combat. The steampunk game follows mercenary Aletheia as she and her acquaintances become involved in a conspiracy in the city of Canaan.


Jeanne d’Arc

Tactical RPG Jeanne d’Arc is loosely based on the story of Joan of Arc and her fight against English occupation of France in the early 15th century during the Hundred Years’ War. It features fantasy elements, with turn-based combat that makes use of a rock, paper, scissors system between character affinities to Sol, Luna, and Stella. KAKU: Ancient Seal

KAKU: Ancient Seal is an open-world action adventure RPG and has been in Early Access for just over a year. The game follows Kaku and his partner Piggy as they explore the primordial era Realm of Ruins. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are currently in development.


Legends of Dionysos

Action RPG Legends of Dionysos is set in a dark medieval fantasy world where players can create and customize their own character before venturing through forests, snowy mountains, caves, deserts, and ancient ruins, battling powerful enemies along the way. Each location features a shrine that can be activated, unleashing a horde of enemies in the process, with a boss waiting at the end.


Riviera: The Promised Land

Platform: PC (previously released on Game Boy Advance, PlayStation Portable)

Riviera: The Promised Land is the first title in the Dept. Heaven series, which draws from Norse mythology. The game follows Ein, a Grim Angel who is required to battle against demons as well as other Grim Angels. He is joined by heroines Fia, Lina, Serene, and Cierra, as well as feline familiar Rose, with the game including dating sim elements and multiple endings. The PC release includes English and Japanese voice overs, background music selection options, a high-speed mode, an auto-save, and more.


Vay

Platform: PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android (previously released on Sega CD, as well as on iOS as an older version)

16-bit RPG Vay is set on the eponymous low-technology planet of Vay, where the prince of a peaceful kingdom is due to be married, but their wedding is attacked by robots and their wife-to-be kidnapped. The prince sets out on a journey to rescue his beloved and stop the machines of war.
