New Release Round-Up (June 20, 2024)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster

Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster includes both Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and its prequel Baten Kaitos Origins. The games feature card-based combat systems and mechanics, with players taking on the role of a guardian spirit who guides the protagonists on their journey. Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean follows Kalas who joins Xelha as both seek to defeat the Alfard Empire for their own reasons. Baten Kaitos Origins takes place twenty years prior to Eternal Wings and follows Sagi, a member of an elite unit in the Alfard Empire who seeks to clear his name. The HD Remaster versions of the games come with Japanese-only voice overs and improved graphics, as well as options to turn encounters off, auto-battle, a cutscene skip option, and auto-save.


Dicefolk

Tactical roguelike Dicefolk is set in a world on the verge of destruction at the hands of the sorcerer Salem, where players take on the role of Alea, a young hero with the ability to command creatures called Chimera. Players will be able to build a team of over 100 unique Chimera on their quest to defeat Salem. Each Chimera has its own set of abilities and strategies, such as strong tank types and speedy agility types. Dice customization affects the control players have over Chimera’s attacks and abilities.


Echo Generation: Midnight Edition

Echo Generation is a turn-based adventure RPG set in the Canadian suburb of Maple Town and inspired by 1980 and 1990s Steven Spielberg films. After a mysterious crash in the local corn fields, bizarre events start happening but go unnoticed by the adult population. Dylan and his crew investigate these mysterious and a potential conspiracy behind them.


Moonstone Island

Creature-collecting life-sim Moonstone Island is set on an open world with over 100 islands. Following their village’s tradition, players move to one of the islands floating in the sky to complete their Alchemy training. With the spiritual allies, potions, and new friends, players explore temples, dungeons, and biomes while looking to uncover the secret of Moonstone Island.


Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Quest of Memories

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Quest of Memories is based on the Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation light novel series, which has also received manga and anime adaptations. The series follows Rudeus Greyrat, a Japanese man reincarnated in a fantasy world. The game features first-person dungeon-crawling as players take on quests from the Guild. Quest of Memories includes the story from the TV anime as well as additional original story scenarios, including the adventures of Roxy, Elinalise, and Talhand, as they search for Rudeus on the Demon Continent.


Scars of Mars

Tactical dungeon-crawling RPG Scars of Mars is set on a research facility on Mars in the mid-22nd century. Players take on the role of a commander of a unit of humanoid fighters on a top-secret mission to rescue survivors after the facility loses contact. Players can control four fighters, positioned on a three-by-three grid, and make real-time decisions about who to control and when to dodge, attack, heal, and more. Each of the humanoid fighters can be customised with different classes, frames and, weapons. Each playthrough features procedurally-generated routes through the research facility, with players given limited battery power for each run.


Thistlemine

Puzzle adventure RPG Thistlemine is set in a world devastated by miasma, which created poisoned wastelands as well as bringing forth lifeforms called the Anomalis that perpetuate it. The game takes place in an Anomalis Exclusion Zone where time and space are bent by the miasma. Players control Noa, a young member of the Thistlemine Excavation Corps that looks to prevent the growth of these zones. The game features maze-based puzzles as well as turn-based combat with limited turns and unlikely apparent odds.
