Tales of the Rays to End Service in Japan

Developer and publisher Bandai Namco announced that the mobile RPG Tales of the Rays will end service in Japan on July 23, 2024. All in-game currency sales have ended, with the Full Voice Pack sales planned to follow on June 20, 2024. Bandai Namco will hold an in-game event titled “2,703 Days Thank-You Finale Campaign” that will start on May 22, 2024, and culminate with the release of the final scenario in July. These announcements came with the reveal of an offline version of Tales of the Rays planned to release in July, allowing players to carry over some data from the online version and access several of the original game’s features.

Tales of the Rays initially launched in Japan on February 28, 2017, for iOS and Android. The game received a global release on July 24, 2017, which ended service on May 29, 2018. Tales of the Rays is set in the fantasy world of Tir Na Nog, where the use of powerful weapons known as mirrages and the Kaleidoscope almost led to the destruction of the world. The story follows the adventures of Ix Nieves and Mileena Weiss, two mirrists — individuals capable to using mirrages — who survived the destruction of their homeland by meteors. Following this disaster, the two main protagonists join the militia Salvation Front and learn about a new threat looming over the world.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly become obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as more as gameplay. Now, I am, writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
