Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord Remake Available in Early Access

Digital Eclipse announced a remake of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, the very first game in the first-person dungeon-crawling series. The remake is available now as an Early Access title for PC on Steam and GOG.com. It is initially priced at $29.99, though the price is expected to rise as it approaches its full release. The core game is said to be fully playable, with a full release expected by the end of 2024.

Originally developed by Sir-Tech, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was first released for Apple II in 1981. The remake has been in development for two years and is said to be built directly upon the game’s original code, with its original interface viewable to players. The game sees players using the own party of adventures to journey through a labyrinth in search of an amulet stolen with the evil wizard Werdna.
