Star Ocean: The Second Story R Opening Movie Released

Square Enix released the opening movie to Star Ocean: The Second Story R, its latest remake of the second game in the Star Ocean scince-fantasy action RPG series. The animated video features the theme song “stella”, performed by SUIREN.

Star Ocean: The Second Story was originally developed by tri-Ace and released for PlayStation in Japan in 1999, followed by North America in 2000 and Europe in 2001. An enhanced remaster, Star Ocean: Second Evolution, was developed by Tose and released for PlayStation Portable in Japan in 2008 and in North America and Europe in 2009, while PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3 versions were also released in Japan.

The Star Ocean: The Second Story R remake will feature 2.5D graphics with full Japanese and English voice overs, original and re-arranged music, new battle mechanics, and more. The game follows two main protagonists — Claude and Rena — with players selecting one as the primary viewpoint character. The story sees Claude, an ensign in the Earth Federation, trapped on the Rena’s medieval-technology planet of Expel. Star Ocean: The Second Story R will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on November 2, 2023.
