New Release Round-Up (July 20, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Cross Tails

Strategy RPG Cross Tails features two main nations inhabited by different races; the Hundians’ Kingdom of Ranverfurt and the Felis’ Republic of Hidiq. War breaks out between the two through the interference of a third power. The game’s story is told with routes for both sides and features multiple endings, 30-plus classes, and terrain effects in combat.


Dragon Quest Treasures

Adventure RPG Dragon Quest Treasures was originally teased as a new Dragon Quest Monsters game. It follows siblings Erik and Mia — younger versions of the characters from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age — who seek to obtain the seven Dragonstones. They are joined in the quest by a selection of recruitable monster allies, who offer their help with real-time combat and treasure hunting. Ember Knights

Action roguelite Ember Knights sees players control the eponymous knights as they try to defeat the mad sorcerer Praxis, who is spreading corruption across the Prime Worlds after siphoning life out of the Ember Tree. The game features six upgradable weapons, seventeen skills, and over eighty relics for players to customise their build and adapt their play style.


Killsquad

Platform: PlayStation 4 (previously released on PC)

Killsquad is a fast-paced action RPG that borrows elements from twin-stick shooter, hack and slash, dungeon crawler, and bullet hell games. Players can choose from five unique heroes with which to play solo or with up to three others in co-op.


Krzyżacy: The Knights of the Cross

Platform: PC

Krzyżacy: The Knights of the Cross is deckbuilding roguelite take on the 15th century conflict between the Polish-Lithuanian Alliance and the Teutonic Knights, adapted from the 1900 novel of the same name by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Players have 30 potential teammates to recruit and power up, with the game featuring seven chapters and over 200 side quests and events. A “western-style” portrait DLC pack is also available for free.


LISA: Definitive Edition

LISA: Definitive Edition is a bundle containing LISA: The Painful and its DLC LISA: The Joyful. The game takes place after an event called the “White Flash”, which wiped out all women in the world of Olathe. It follows Brad as he travels the morally decayed world. In order to save fallen party members, Brad must make sacrifices — including chopping off limbs — that affect both his stats and appearance, with other ruthless decisions also available that impact towns and other characters. The Definitive Edition includes various improvements and new content, also released as an update to its PC version, including new stories with multiple endings, a Painless (easy) difficulty mode, twelve new localised language options, and more.


Mahokenshi

Platform: Mac (previously released on PC)

Mahokenshi is a strategic deckbuilder where players attempt to protect the floating Celestial Islands from corrupting forces. The game is inspired by Japanese mythology and sees players selecting one of four samurai houses, each with its own play style. It features over 200 available cards, with its map rendered in full 3D.


Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Definitive Edition

Puzzle RPG Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is a spin-off to the Might & Magic strategy series, acting as a prequel taking place 40 years before Heroes of Might & Magic V. Its story campaign follows five heroes scattered across Ashen as they unravel a demonic plot, while multiplayer lets players battle others or computer-controlled opponents in 1v1 and 2v2 fights. Its turn-based battles see player forces attempting to defeat enemies by lining up to attack or forming a defensive wall. The Definitive Edition includes refreshed graphics and quality-of-life improvements including a full rebalance of its multiplayer, as well as the contents of the I Am the Boss DLC.


Oaken

Tactical roguelike Oaken is set in the eponymous otherworldly kingdom, where spirits live among the Great Oak’s branches. Players set out on an adventure to save the Great Oak, choosing one of the guides to aid them. Oaken features a randomly-generated world map, with players jumping from branch to branch. The game’s combat takes place on hexagonal grids, with players able to use their units and spells to emerge victorious.


Sailing Era

Platform: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (previously released on PC)
Publisher: Bilibili
Developer: GY Games
Available: PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop
Price: $24.99

Sailing Era is a sandbox sailing-based RPG set during the 15th to 17th century. Players select a character and set out to explore seas across the world, forming their own fleet and recruiting allies. The game features real-time naval battles as well as land exploration systems.

    WAIT, WAIT, Hold up did KEMCO ACTUALLY, release and rpg i am interested in?!?!?!?!?!?!? This actually looks good. KEMCO after how long , now imagine if they just spent time and money doing that into GOOD game once in a while instead of 10 bad ones every 5 months. I have a feeling it will be bad because well its kemco but i will give it a shot. Also sailing era is ok. Looks good. Still did anyone else get caught by the biggest suprise ever when you were watching like omg this could be good what is it and see kemco . LOL WOW/.
