New Release Round-Up (June 1, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection

The Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection consists of remasters of the first three Etrian Odyssey games: Etrian Odyssey HD, Etrian Odyssey II HD, and Etrian Odyssey III HD. The dungeon-crawling RPGs see players exploring various locations that they need to map out with a customised party. The remastered versions feature remastered graphics and music, quality of life improvements that include new difficulty options and additional save slots, touchscreen mapping on Nintendo Switch, full mouse support on PC, new character portraits, and more.


Puzzle Quest 3

Gem-matching RPG Puzzle Quest 3 is developed by Infinity Plus Two, the same studio as previous entries in the series. It takes place 500 years after the events of the original Puzzle Quest and features a head-to-head combat system with new gameplay mechanics.


System Shock Remake

Platform: PC
Publisher: Prime Matter
Developer: Nightdive Studios

Price: $39.99

Originally released in 1994, System Shock is a sci-fi RPG set on an space station that has been taken over by the rogue A.I. SHODAN who seeks to destroy the human race. The remake is a ground-up rebuild of the game, featuring HD visuals, updated controls and UI, and remastered sound and music. Releases for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S are planned to follow follow at a later date.


The Caligula Effect: Overdose

Platform: PlayStation 5 (previously released on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

The Caligula Effect: Overdose is an enhanced remake of PlayStation Vita title The Caligula Effect, including a female protagonist, various new characters, and revamped visuals. It sees players trapped inside a virtual school called Mobius created by a virtual idol named μ (Mu), where they join up with like-minded individuals trying to escape back to reality in the Go-Home Club and fight against μ’s enforcers, the Ostinato Musicians. A follow-up, The Caligula Effect 2, was released in 2021.
