Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights Ending Service in Japan

Square Enix announced that it will be closing service for mobile RPG Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights in Japan on February 28, 2023. Sales of the premium Mithril currency have been suspended; currently owned Mithril can still be used, and a refund will be offered for any unused paid Mithril.

Square Enix plans to release the final chapter of the game’s story, as well as new events and other content prior to the game’s shutdown. The company is also planning to release a dedicated offline app that will let players view details about the game’s characters and stories, with details to be revealed at a later date.

Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights is a single-player RPG that features a story written by Keiichi Ajiro (who has worked on the scenario for previous titles in the series) with music by Revo (Bravely Default, Bravely Default II). Combat includes the series’ Brave and Default actions, which let characters use multiple actions per turn. The game introduces four new Warriors of Light — Claire, Steel Franklin, Sandra Cassandra, and Rufus — as well as the fairy Lumina. It released in Japan as a free-to-play title with in-app transactions on iOS and Android on January 27, 2022, but did not receive a western release.
