Kickstarter Check-In: LunarLux

Publisher Freedom Games and developer CosmicNobab Games have begun a Kickstarter campaign for pixel-graphic RPG LunarLux. The game takes place on the moon and follows Lunar Warrior Bella as she attempts to destroy a comet before it wipes out all life. The game is being developed for PC, with a Nintendo Switch version under consideration, and is currently planned to release in late 2023.

LunarLux is set a thousand years after a catastrophe led to planet Terra becoming volcanic and lifeless, with the surviving humans managing to make their way onto its moon, Luna. The people have managed to survive and thrive, however, the return of the antimatter comet that caused the initial event on Terra is set to return and wipe out the survivors. Bella finds her way across Luna looking for a way to destroy the comet; during her adventure she fights monsters known as Murks and uncovers the secrets of a lost civilisation.

The game will feature a hybrid turn- and action-based combat system, which draws inspirations from Mega Man Battle Network, Undertale, and Mario & Luigi. Players choose when to utilise support skills, with button prompts allowing for follow-up attacks and bonus damage, while manual shield activation lets players block enemy attacks. Bella is joined by her robotic sidekick Tetra, who is able to dive into networks to assist her through 8-bit mini-games.

The campaign has already passed its $10,000 funding goal, and is set to run until November 3, 2022. Those who pledge at least $20 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
