Phantasy Star Online 2, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis Getting Western PS4 Release

Sega has announced that MMORPGs Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be released for PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe. The western PlayStation 4 versions will be released on August 31, 2022, and include cross-play with the current PC and Xbox One versions as well as all of the content updates added since the games’ launch.

Phantasy Star Online 2 was originally released for PC in Japan in 2012, and finally got a international release in 2020. The game, and its predecessor Phantasy Star Online, are spin-offs to the main Phantasy Star series, taking place in a separate galaxy. Meanwhile, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a new game that runs alongside Phantasy Star Online 2. It takes place 1,000 years after the events of Phantasy Star Online 2, is set on a new world, and features a redesigned graphics engine, as well as a new multi-weapon system and abilities. In addition to the PlayStation 4 western release announcement, Sega recently put out two new videos highlighting the content updates coming to Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis during this month.
