Roguelike Deckbuilder Oaken Announced
Laki Studios and Goblinz Publishing announced Oaken. The game is a tactical roguelike deckbuilder in development for PC and will be available on Steam Early Access and GOG.com Games in Development on May 3, 2022.
Oaken is set in the eponymous otherworldly kingdom, where spirits live among the Great Oak’s branches. The spirits all act in harmony thanks to the Great Oak’s voice, but the voice becomes silent and events soon threaten to destroy the realm. Players set out on an adventure to save the Great Oak, choosing one of the guides to aid them.
Oaken features a randomly-generated world map, with players jumping from branch to branch. The game’s combat takes place on hexagonal grids, with players able to use their units and spells to emerge victorious. Winning battles provides new cards, while encounters and events can provide them with other rewards. Unneeded cards can be destroyed to generate Lumi Dust to improve other unit stats.
