Regarding the “why do licensed sports games come out yearly” question from 248, they have to pay the sport governing body as well, and it’s not cheap or written off as a marketing budget. There was some talk recently of EA ditching the FIFA license rather than pay a fee that translates to a billion dollars over four years (or a World Cup cycle). To a lesser extent, I suspect this is also why I’m buying MLB The Show on Switch next month and also getting it on GamePass.
