Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box Collections Heading to Steam

Publisher SNEG announced that the Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box collections and selected related titles will be made available on Steam on March 25, 2022. The bundles — also currently available on GOG.com — will come with a dedicated Gold Box launcher, enhanced DOSBox support, and companion apps that let players access dungeon-mapping tools, journal entries, spellbooks, and more. The full list of bundles and titles is as follows (* indicates related rather than “official” Gold Box titles):

  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives Collection One (Eye of the Beholder I, II, and III)
  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives Collection Two (Curse of the Azure Bonds, Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Hillsfar, Pools of Darkness, Pool of Radiance, Secret of the Silver Blades, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, and Unlimited Adventures)
  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives Collection Three (Dungeon Hack, Menzoberranzan)
  • Krynn series (Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, The Dark Queen of Krynn)
  • Dark Sun series (Shattered Lands, Wake of the Ravager)
  • Ravenloft series (Strahd’s Possession, Stone Prophet)
  • D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator*
  • Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse*

The Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box games were created by Strategic Simulations, Inc. and released between 1988 and 1992. The games utilise the same Gold Box Engine and are based on the rulest and campaign settings from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG. D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator is a real-time strategic city building title releasing in 1993, while Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse is an action RPG released in 1994.
