More Atelier Sophie 2 Details, Screenshots Released

Koei Tecmo and Gust provided new details and images for the upcoming Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream. The game is a direct sequel to Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, the first title in Atelier’s Mysterious sub-series. It sees alchemist Sophie Neuenmuller transported to the world of Erde Wiege where she meets a younger version of her teacher Plachta who does not know who Sophie is.

The update introduces two new characters, Alette Claretie and Olias Enders. Alette is the first person Sophie meets in Erde Wiege as she saves Sophie after finds her unconscious. She is known to be reckless and dreams of finding treasure unique to Erde Wiege, selling things she finds on her adventures in the town of Roytale. Olias bills himself as the world’s strongest bodyguard and is the person who guides Sophie to the younger Plachta’s atelier on the edge of town.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream uses an alchemy system based upon the previous panel synthesis system from the the Mysterious sub-series. New items are based on the alchemic components of materials in the panel, which are associated with the fire, ice, lighning, wind, or light elements. By selecting components that match the desire item type, players can acquire additional effects. Certain panels are brightly lit and by placing same element components adjacent to each, players can form links to gain more powerful items.

Players will also unlock catalysts and restricted panels. Catalysts enable effects such as increasing the size of the synthesis panels, while restricted panels have a higher synthesis difficulty level but grant special effects that cannot otherwise be attained. Finally, Sophie and Plachta will gain the Assist skill, which sees them helping with synthesis. Sophie and Plachta can gain unique recipes, some of which are required to advance the story, by raising their Alchemy Level.
