Star Wars: The Old Republic Legacy of the Sith Expansion Announced

As part of the preparations for its tenth anniversary celebrations for MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare announced a new expansion for the game. Legacy of the Sith is the game’s seventh expansion and is planned to launch for PC in the fall of 2021 and will see players traveling to the far reaches of the galaxy while they chase down Darth Malgus.

Legacy of the Sith will increase the game’s level cap from 75 to 80 and introduce a new Combat Styles feature. This lets players separate their class story and gameplay class, letting players take on any advanced class within the tech or force categories. Players will also be able to instantly swap playstyles and gear with new loadouts.

The expansion includes separate Imperial and Republic storylines for the aquatic planet Manaan, and completing the planet’s story will unlock a new base of operations for the player’s faction, plus a new daily area. Players will also visit a ruined Sith fortress on the planet Elom, which will be available as a solo experience or multiplayer Flashpoint. In addition, a new Operation — R-4 Anomaly — will be added. The tenth anniversary celebrations will also see some reworking of the overall player experience, including changes to character creation.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was originally released in December 2011, starting as a subscription-based title but switching to free-to-play with an optional subscription in 2012. Players create a character from one of eight classes — four siding with the Sith Empire and the remaining four with the Galactic Republic — each having its own story and AI companions, with players able to make various Light Side and Dark Side-aligned decisions throughout.
