Yo-kai Watch 4 Gets GeGeGe no Kitaro Crossover, Additional Details

Level-5 has provided more details about Yo-kai Watch 4 ahead of the game’s Japanese launch next month. Included in the new details are a crossover with the GeGeGe no Kitaro series, the game’s Crank-a-kai machines, character skills, and yo-kai recruitment.

Yo-kai Watch 4 will include two characters — Kitaro and Medma-Oyaji — from GeGeGe no Kitaro, a manga series created by Shigeru Mizuki in 1960 that is regarded as popularising yo-kai in media. The two characters will appear in a quest for Natsume where the Yo-kai Detective Team help Kitaro in tracking down Medma-Oyaji.

The series’ Crank-a-kai machines that give players items or yo-kai will return in four variations, one for each of the game’s four worlds. Meanwhile, the six playable Yo-kai Watch users in the game will each have their own weapon and special moves, as well as their own attributes based on six parameters: Ghost, Body, Technique, Heart, Love, and Friendship. Points to strengthen these attributes can be found in ways such as leveling up from combat.

Yo-kai Watch 4 features a brand new befriending system for the series. Players can obtain Souls from yo-kai in combat, which can crystallised forms of a yo-kai’s power. These can be traded to “Soulmatching” consultant Konsaru, who will introduce players to new yo-kai.

Yo-kai Watch 4’s story crosses over four worlds: the modern-day world of regular protagonist Keita (Nate in English); a world thirty years in the future that features Natsume, Keita’s future daughter; a third world set in the 1960s featuring Shin, who previously appeared in the movie Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends; with the final world the mysterious yo-kai world of Yo-makai. Yo-kai Watch 4 is set to be released for Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 20, 2019.
