Octopath Traveler Introduces H’aanit and Therion

Nintendo and Square Enix have released a new trailer for the upcoming Nintendo Switch title Octopath Traveler. Dubbed the “April 2018 Preview”, the three-and-a-half-minute video introduces two more playable characters to the game’s roster: H’aanit and Therion.

H’aanit the Hunter’s journey features her searching for her master. Her unique Path Action is Provoke, which lets her set beasts on people to draw them into combat, potentially chasing off those causing problems or blocking paths. Meanhwile, Therion the Thief, whose journey sees him tasked with retrieving a gemstone for a client. Unsurprisingly, his Path Action is Steal, which lets him take items from others.

After introducing the two characters, the video shows how Path Actions are divided into Noble and Rogue categories. For example, Therion’s Steal is a Rogue action, while Tressa’s Purchase action is an equivalent Noble one. Generally, Noble actions will not fail, but may be limited by level or money available, while Rogue actions can be used at any time but failure is possible and the character’s repuation will go down. However, players can restore their reputation by bribing the local tavern keeper.

The video also details side stories, which offer extra quests and tales for the various NPCs in the world. Thse side stories will require using Path Actions to progress, and often have more than one potential resolution.

Octopath Traveler follows the stories of eight travelers in the fantasy land of Osterra. The game is planned for release on Nintendo Switch on July 13, 2018.
