Eternal Anima Gets Pair of Developer Videos

Marvelous released a pair of behind-the-scenes developer discussion videos for its upcoming “legacy-driven time-travel RPG” Eternal Anima. The first video features a discussion between Eternal Anima director Katsuhisa Higuchi and Mistwalker’s Hironobu Sakaguchi discussing their past in game development, the theme of “legacy”, and how those elements have impacted Eternal Anima. The second video sees Katsuhisa Higuchi joined by sound producer Hitoshi Sakimoto and guest composer Nobuo Uematsu, who talk about their influences, workflow, and approaches to composition and their work on the game.

Eternal Anima is set to release worldwide on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 4, 2027. The game is said to evoke the spirit of 1990s and 2000s RPGs and follows Wade, a man who goes on the run after questioning the rule prohibiting wishing for a better future in the kingdom of Urvis Ael. He soon finds himself on a time-travelling adventure along with a varied group of new allies, trying to save civilizations of the past and unravel the secrets of a lost history. Players use Wade’s powers of Psychometry to decipher memories within objects, as well as to inherit Abilities and Classes in turn-based combat. They can use Future Sight to predict when and how enemies will act, and look to rewrite that future using actions able to delay or cancel enemy moves. They will venture across many continents and time periods, with decisions in the past potentially powering up future allies.
