Expeditions: Samurai Discusses Early Access Plans

THQ Nordic and Campfire Cabal released a new behind-the-scenes video for Expeditions: Samurai. The three-minute video comes ahead of the game’s Steam Early Access release this week on August 7, 2026, and discusses the team’s approach to Early Access. The developer is planning three major updates during the Early Access process before the game’s full release, currently slated for 2027.

Expeditions: Samurai is the fourth title in the series, following Expeditions: Conquistador, Expeditions: Viking, and Expeditions: Rome. The game is set in a version of early 1600s Japan where William Adams’s role as Japan’s first European Samurai is usurped by the player character on account of them arriving first. Arriving onboard the Dutch frigate “De Albatros” as the new leader of a crew of privateers, players are drawn into a civil war, with their choices determining the fates of their crew and the future of Japan.
