Octopath Traveler 0 Announced

Square Enix announced Octopath Travler 0, a new title in its HD-2D turn-based RPG series. The game is set to release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025. The game is available to pre-order (platform dependent) in standard $49.99 digital and physical editions; a $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition that includes the game, a digital art book, and the Deluxe Travel Provisions in-game item DLC pack; and a physical $229.99 Collector’s Edition (via Square Enix’s online store) that includes:

Octopath Traveler 0′s story draws from that of mobile title Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. Players create their own customised protagonist, who is from the town of Wishvale. On the annual Day of Reverence festival, the town is attacked and engulfed in flames, setting the protagonist on the path of revenge or restoration. As players journey across the world of Orsterra on their quest, they form a party of eight members from a total of over thirty recruitable travelers.

Octopath Traveler 0 retains the Path Actions of previous games, where players can use their characters special abilities to interact with townspeople in different ways. It also includes the Break & Boost system in combat; enemies have Shield Points that cause the enemy to become stunned when depleted, while the party accumulates Boost Points each turn that can be used to increase the potency of attacking or defensive actions.

The game also adds various new features. A town building mechanic sees players rebuild their hometown, freely placing down buildings while inviting new residents to move in. The game also introduces character-specific ultimate techniques in combat, as well as the ability to switch skills in a similar manner to equipment.

Octopath Traveler 0′s recruitable characters include Stia, Phenn, and Laurana. Stia is the protagonist’s childhood friend. The daughter of the architect Lavore, she constantly assists her father and dreams of becoming a traveling carpenter. Phenn is a member of Wishvale’s town watch. He has lived in the town since losing his parents and acts as an older brother to the protagonist. Laurana is a deacon in Wishbale and is said to have become more knowledgeable about the teachings of the Sacred Flame than many renowned priests.
