Shujinkou Demo Available on PlayStation 5

Developer Rice Games released a demo for Japanese language-learning RPG Shujinkou on PlayStation 5. The demo is said to be fifteen hours long and introduces many mechanics and systems that facilitate comprehensive Japanese language learning. The demo is also currently available on PC and Mac via Steam, while the full release is planned for December 2024.

Originally announced in 2019, Shujinkou will feature an eighty-plus-hour story campaign split across two major arcs. The game follows Shu, Jin, and Kou as they try to save the world from the Akuma. Players are able to learn hiragana, katakana, and numerous kanji as well as over a hundred types of grammar corresponding from the JLPT’s (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) N5 to N3 standards with the game also including some content up to N1. It also includes an English-only mode.

RPG gameplay features a vast selection of skills, items, and equipment as players tackle sixteen labyrinths. Players are also able to take on quests, cook, fish, participate in minigames, shop, and more.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
