New Songs of Conquest DLC Announced

Developer Lavapotion announced a new DLC for its strategy RPG Songs of Conquest. The DLC, which is titled Vanir and is set to release this winter, adds a new faction and biome as well as new units and Wielders.

The Vanir DLC introduces the titular faction, which is inspired by Viking and Scandinavian folklore. The Vanir are said to be direct descendants of indebted Baryans and Arleon settlers. They are known for raiding the newly introduced biome, the Bleak East, for riches. Due to the hostile nature of the Bleak East, which is made of snowy tundra and icy reaches, the Vanir were forced to rely on creatures known as Vildra, gaining the power to turn into beasts full of rage and power. The DLC adds eight new units including four Vanir (Huskarl, Berserk, Chieftain, and Swine) and four Vildra (Troll, Lykt, Bacahorse, and Nornor). It also comes with nine new Wielder heroes, which include Gorm the Endbringer, who fully relies on the power of Vildra, and Jarn Steadfact, who refused to embrace this power. In addition, the DLC adds five new Conquest maps and two Challenge maps.

Songs of Conquest released for PC and Mac earlier this year, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions planned for fall 2024. The main game includes four different campaigns for players to experience, focusing on different nations. Arleon is a nation where those who are strong thrive, with its peasants rebelling against the knights who have joined with a mythical race known as Faey. Barya is a state without law after separating themselves from the empire. It is divided into independent merchant states where contracts made with merchants replace the law. Rana is inhabited by a race of swamp dwellers who have a history of being enslaved, finding the strength to rise with the arrival of “The Wielder”. Finally, the declining Barony of Loth seeks to find strength once again with the discovery of Oathbound legions.

Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
