New Release Round-Up (October 17, 2024)

Welcome to RPGmer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released in the last week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


8-Bit Adventures 2

Turn-based RPG 8-Bit Adventures 2 is inspired by Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and PlayStation-era JRPGs. The game blends sci-fi and fantasy elements as players try to save the world from an entity known as the Glitch, with seven playable characters and a turn-based combat system. While it is a follow-up to 8-Bit Adventures: The Forgotten Journey, players do not need to have played the previous game. A playthrough is intended to last around 30-40 hours. Astlibra Gaiden: The Cave of Phantom Mist

Astlibra Gaiden: The Cave of Phantom Mist tells a separate story to 2D action RPG Astlibra Revision, following the baker of Rispadar’s daughter on her own mini adventure. It sees players taking on randomly generated dungeons through a roguelike-style gameplay loop, including granting access to new magic attacks.


Darksiders II

Action RPG Darksiders II is a sequel to the first Darksiders game and sees Earth caught in the midst of the Apocalypse, as the forces of Heaven and Hell rip it apart in their ongoing battle against each other. War has been accused of heinous crimes, and now the second Horseman of the Apocalypse, Death, has been awakened and rides in a struggle to clear his brother’s name. The new release is an enhanced version of the Deathinitive Edition released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, featuring 4K resolution, ray tracing, improved lighting and shadows, and shorter download times.


Drova: Forsaken Kin

Grimdark pixel RPG Drova: Forsaken Kin is inspired by Celtic mythology and set in a world where the power to capture the spirits that govern nature and rule over them instead has been rediscovered. Players join one of two factions — each with different values and goals — and explore an open world, studying the environment and various mysteries to increase their strength.


Eternights

Billed as an “apocalyptic dating action game”, Eternights is set during a catastrophic event where a mysterious virus has turned humans into violence-obsessed monsters. Players look to find a cure with their allies, going through dungeons to meet the deadlines before time runs out. In between dungeon runs, players can grow their relationships with other characters, each with their own story and abilities that can help players in battle. New World: Aeternum

New World: Aeternum is effectively a mixture of remaster, update, and successor to MMORPG New World, but is playable solo. The release will include all of the content for New World, plus a new large-scale PvP zone, a ten-player raid, end-game solo trials, new character archetypes, a reworked dialogue system, and more. The game will include cross-play functionality and feature parity across platforms. Passageway of the Ancients

’90s cRPG-inspired title Passageway of the Ancients is set on the world of Aieryon, said to be the sole remaining magical planet in the galaxy. The game sees players controlling a resident of the city of Ithgar as they try to solve their parents’ murder. The player character has two personas: a hidden Dragonkindt form as well as a public facing race and appearance they take on due to the Dragonkindt being persecuted. The game features a strategic real-time combat system, while players will be able to level up both their Dragonkindt and public personas simultaneously.


Wizardry Variants Daphne

Platform: iOS, Android

Available: Apple App Store, Google Play Store
Price: Free-to-play with in-game transactions

Originally announced as Wizardry VA, Wizardry Variants Daphne features 3D first-person dungeon-crawling as players deal with the monsters and traps within. Its setting is a dungeon called the Abyss, which opens every 100 years, whereupon its curse of death attempts to consume the world until those of a fated lineage can seal it. A PC release is also planned.
