Nippon Ichi Software Reveals ClaDun X3
Nippon Ichi Software has announced a new entry in the ClaDun action RPG series. ClaDun X3 is planned to release in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2025. ClaDun X3 is the fourth title in the series, which began with 2010 PlayStation Portable title Cladun: This Is an RPG. It was followed by ClaDun x2 for PlayStation Portable and PC and ClaDun Returns: This Is Sengoku! for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.
ClaDun X3 is set in the miniature world of Arcanus Cella, which connects different worlds, dungeons, and eras. Players are suddenly brought to Arcanus Cella alongside a host of other villains, where they are informed they need to play a death game for the sake of world peace. There are six weapon types and ten character classes available with players able to attack, use magic, dash, jump, slide, defend, and more as they progress through dungeons. Players will also encounter traps that they will need to avoid.
Weapons have different effects and usages. For example, blunt weapons can break down certain walls, while the staff allows for longer ranged attacks and speeds up casting times. In addition, players can use Magic Circles as a party formation system, despite only controlling one character. This sees the player controlled character set at the centre, surrounded by sub-characters who boost their power while providing protection. There are up to two hundred Magic Circles, which can support up to sixteen characters.
In addition to its main story, ClaDun X3 includes the Ran-geon, a one-hundred-level random dungeon. Every time players enter, the layout changes, with players required to find either the exit or a gate to the next level. Each time players enter a gate, monster levels are increased while other elements like drop rates are randomly changed. There are also smaller dungeons, called Map-geons, that can be generated by Magic Map items that can be shared with other players.
The main character can be fully customised by the player, including editing their appearance with the pixel art editor. Graphics for the character’s weapons and armour can also be similarly customised. Other options allow the player to create their own original background music and town maps, the latter of which can be shared with other players alongside Magic Maps, potentially rewarding them with rare maps.
