ClaDun X3 Details Magic Circles

Nippon Ichi Software released new details for ClaDun X3, its upcoming latest entry in the ClaDun action RPG series. The new details and screenshots focus on the game’s Magic Circles system where players can power up their characters.

The system sees players putting their main character and supporting characters within the Magic Circles, where the supporting characters’ mana flows into the main character. Players can then place magical artifacts where the mana flows to provide various enhancement effects. Different Artifacts can be placed in different slots on the Magic Circle, although certain artifacts can be placed anywhere. There are a variety of slots available: some spots known as Fixed Spaces to not need an artifact to be activated, while others provide skills to the main character that be upgraded by placing artifacts on them.

In addition to their base effect, some artifacts have titles that help boost them. One title, Union, allows an artifact to share its effect across with any other adjacent artifact with the same title. For example, an +1 DEF Union artifact next to a +1 Union ATK artifact will produce the combined effect of +2 DEF and +2 ATK. Other special artifacts include the Wide artifact, which includes the area of a skill; the Twin artifact, which creates a copy of the Artifact next to it and effectively double its power; and the Zero artifact, which can either allow an artifact to be activated using zero mana or remove the debuff effect of certain Fixed Spaces.

Support characters within the Magic Circles act as a shield, taking damage in the main character’s place. Once a support character is deafeated, however, the player loses all of the benefits that support character was providing in the Magic Circle. Players will want to consider the HP totals of their supporting characters and where they are likely to be attacked when placing them. Supporting characters active in a Magic Circle will earn experience points and level up, with certain artifacts allowing players to enhance their stat growth when they level up.

The game will feature over two hundred Magic Circles, with each of the ten classes having their own Magic Circles that branch into different versions based on certain conditions and useful for different situations. For example, the Ranger has a Mermaid Magic circle that enhances damage resistance while in water, while the Saint’s Honor Magic Circle bestows the flying status that bypasses any ground traps on certain dungeon floors.

ClaDun X3 is the fourth title in the series, which began with 2010 PlayStation Portable title Cladun: This Is an RPG. It was followed by ClaDun x2 for PlayStation Portable and PC and ClaDun Returns: This Is Sengoku! for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC. ClaDun X3 is planned to release in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2025. No announcement has been made regarding a western release at this time.
