Heaven Burns Red Releasing in the West
During Anime Expo 2024, publisher Yostar Games revealed that it will be releasing Heaven Burns Red in the West. The title is a free-to-play turn-based RPG co-developed by WFS Inc. (Wright Flyer Studios) and visual novel developer Key. It initially released in 2022 in Japan for Android and iOS before being ported to PC the same year. The western release’s date has yet to be announced, with platforms also yet to be confirmed.
Writer and composer Jun Maeda, known for AIR, CLANNAD, Little Busters!, and Angel Beats!, is credited for Heaven Burns Red‘s scenario and music. He bills the game as one that evokes tears, citing the work of Naoki Hisaya on the visual novel Kanon as inspiration.
Heaven Burns Red is set in a future where Earth comes under attack from a life-form known as Phage. Humanity’s weapons have proven ineffective and a large part of the world is now under Phage’s control. However, a new weapon dubbed Seraph is able to damage Phage, and those able to utilise it — all girls with special talents — are now humanity’s last hope.
