GBC Era-Inspired RPG Petal Runner Announced
iam8bit and Nano Park Studios announced slice-of-life RPG Petal Runner. The game is billed as a coming-of-age story in a cyberpunk open world with pixel-art graphics designed to hearken back to Game Boy Color era titles.
Petal Runner is set in the city of Sapphire Valley, where a new energy product created from flowers known as the Leap Cell is used to power the latest generation of artificial pets, called HanaPets. Players control Cali, who is joined by first-generation HanaPet Kira, as they look to become a Petal Runner, specialised motorcycle-riding couriers who deliver Leap Cells. The friendship between Cali and Kira, who lives in a keychain device called the HanaPets Leash, plays an important role in the story, particularly as older generation models become harder to service.
The game sees players exploring the various distinct districts of Sapphire Valley as they ride around and meet new characters, take on side adventures, and participate in mini-games. As they train with mentors around the city, they pick up new courier skills, obtaining Certification Badges as they complete deliveries. A release window has not been announced for Petal Runner, but the game is available to wishlist on Steam.
