I only listen to things that aren’t the game’s audio when I’m grinding or doing something else fairly mindless. When I do, podcasts, audiobooks, or YouTube videos I listen to more than I watch.
I usually just listen to podcasts if I’m not using headphones. I like the console feature (PS or Xbox) where you can play a game and stream music or a podcast at the same time, without losing the sound effects in the game. Listening to audiobooks while gaming doesn’t work for me for some reason.. it breaks my brain.
I listen to podcasts when gaming, but once those run out I’ll usually default to whatever bits of game music are living rent-free in my head at the moment. Presently, that’s the Moebius battle theme from Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and the Team Star Boss theme from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.
