Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Introduces New Features

Spike Chunsoft released new details for the upcoming roguelike Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. The new information covers new features in the game planned to assist players in their dungeon crawling.

The first set of features shown are a new mini-map, a hotbar for up to four projectiles and magic staves, and a “Handy Dash” option. The game will also feature a Live Display Mode. This comes in two options — standard and simplified — showing players and potential streaming audiences information that includes character stats, inventory, equipment strength, play time, and more. Finally, the game will also include online elements. A Rescue option will let players call upon others to help if they collapse during a run, with Rescued players allowed to carry on where they left off. Other online features will be detailed at a later date.

Known in Japan as Shiren the Wanderer 6, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island sees Shiren and his trusted ferret companion Koppa adventure on the eponymous island, where is he joined by his friend Asuka and supported by innkeeper Suzuna. Each time Shiren enters one of the procedurally-generated dungeons he starts at level 1 with any gear and levels he obtains being lost if he collapses during exploration. The game will release for Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe on February 27, 2024, a month after its Japanese release.
