Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Characters, Locations Revealed

Square Enix released more details for the upcoming Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. The new information, accompanied by a small batch of screenshots, details the main characters and some locations in the game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince offers an alternate depiction of events during Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. The game follows Psaro, the eponymous cursed prince, and his companion Rose in the world of Nadiria. Psaro is the offspring of the human Miriam and Randolfo the Tyrant, the Master of Monsterkind who has governed Nadiria with an iron fist for many years. After Miriam falls ill, Psaro beseeches his father to cure her. Randolfo instead casts a curse on Psaro, which prevents him from harming monsters. Looking for revenge, Psaro becomes a Monster Wrangler, recruiting and fighting with monsters to build up his own loyal army.

Other major characters include Dolph the Destroyer, Randolfo’s eldest son and a Nadirian general. The land’s most powerful fighter, he is believed to be Randolfo’s chosen successor. Also appearing in the game are the Zenith Dragon, the all-seeing dragon god; Healie, a young boy looking for a long-lost companion; Ludo, a mysterious young poet; Percival, a devoted army captain; and General Chayne, leader of the Diabloic Hall fortress. The game will also feature the Chosen Heroes from Dragon Quest IV, who set out to stop Psaro and his ambitions.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will include some returning locations from Dragon Quest IV. These include Rosehill, a sleepy village where monsters and dwarves live together in harmony and which acts as Psaro’s base of operations. Other locations include the Diabloic Hall monster stronghold and Zenithia, from where the Zenith Dragon observes the world.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is planned to release on Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023. The game will feature over 500 monsters in total, including returning favourites, Dragon Quest XI’s Jasper Unbound and Krystalinda, and brand new monsters.
