Nintendo Announces Ring Fit Adventure

Nintendo has announced Ring Fit Adventure, a game that combines exercise with an adventure RPG. The game uses two accessories — the Ring-Con and Leg Strap — which players attach their Joy-Cons to and use to undertake various exercises to control their character. The Ring-Con is held in both hands and can be squeezed or held and moved in certain positions, while the Leg Strap is attached to the player’s upper left leg.

The adventure mode of Ring Fit Adventure sees players travel across twenty worlds in an effort to take down the muscular dragon Dragaux. Getting through the world requires actions such as jogging on the spot or squeezing the Ring-Con to blowing air gusts beneath the player character and make them jump. Combat sees players using over forty potential Fit Skills to attack and defend, which require the player to do the corresponding exercise moves. The game provides directions for these moves, with the power determined by how well the player does them. Successfully doing moves grants experience points, with level-ups providing attribute boosts and unlocking new skills. Players can adjust the game to suit their individual level of skill.

In addition to adventure mode, Ring Fit Adventure includes a quick play mode, which allows local players to compete for high scores, as well as Set and Simple exercise modes, which provide exercises based on a theme or body part and let players create their own workouts. There is also a “silent” mode that replaces the leg exercises with ones that should produce less noise.

Ring Fit Adventure is set to be released on October 18, 2019. The game is priced at $79.99, which includes both the Ring-Con and Leg Strap accessories.
