Japanese Release Window Revealed for Switch Version of Phantasy Star

Sega has announced a September launch window and price of 950¥ for the relaunch of its classic title, Phantasy Star. The game is being released through the eShop on Nintendo Switch under the Sega Ages brand. Originally for the Sega Master System, Phantasy Star will see some upgrades including an additional lower difficulty setting; a monster codex; lists for items such as spells, armor, and weapons; an auto-mapping feature for dungeons; and a music player.

Phantasy Star is a JRPG featuring a female protagonist by the name of Alis, seeking revenge for the death of her brother at the hands of the tyrannical King Lassic. The game takes place in the star system of Algol, and features a top-down world exploring view, coupled with a pseudo-3D, first-person dungeon crawling experience. Phantasy Star was released in Japan to critical acclaim in 1987 (1988 in North America and Europe), and has seen several re-releases on the Sega Saturn, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation 2.

Hi, I'm Peter. I grew up on the NES and beyond, fell in love with the SNES, and established my roots in JRPGs very early. My favorite franchise will always be Final Fantasy. I'm also incredibly terrible at writing my own bios.
